Police: Man fought with officers before being shot with stun gun

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro man was officially charged with battery, resisting arrest, fleeing, and disorderly conduct after fighting with officers Saturday night, according to documents filed in Craighead County District Court on Tuesday. The fight ended with him being stunned in the eye.

Malcolm J. Stafford, 20, of Jonesboro was ordered to appear in court again in January.

According to the initial police report, shortly before 11 p.m. officers responded to a fight in a parking lot in the 1600-block of Red Wolf Boulevard.

When police attempted to arrest the suspect, later identified as Stafford, he attempted to walk away and fought with officers who tried to stop him.

During the struggle, an officer deployed his Taser on Stafford; but, Stafford “ducked his head” and one of the Taser barbs landed in his left eye.

Officers arrested Stafford then immediately called for emergency medical services.

Dash cam video was released by Jonesboro police to Region 8 News Tuesday.

Stafford was taken by ambulance to a local hospital then transferred to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis for further medical treatment. He was released from the hospital.
