AG's Office Says the Answer is Still "No" for Bingo Charities

JANUARY 6, 2005 - Posted at 11:28 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Attorney General's office has once again stood its ground in telling legislators that there's no way around the state's constitutional ban on gaming, even when it's for charity.

Elana C. Wills of the state's legal office replied to a question from Representative Jimmy "Red" Milligan of Yellville by saying the Legislature would have to pass a constitutional amendment to allow charitable bingo.

Milligan wanted to know if the Veterans of Foreign Wars could accept donations and provide players with prizes that could be traded back to the VFW for cash.  The official answer was "No."
