Robbery suspect found hiding in kitchen closet

An observant Sonic customer helped land a robbery suspect behind bars on New Year's Day.

According to a Jonesboro police report, an employee was robbed at Sonic, 4405 East Johnson, shortly before 9 p.m.

The employee told police that a black man in a small black car first pulled into a stall, then pulled out a knife.

The report states the man grabbed for her apron full of cash and attempted to cut it off of her. The robbery victim said the suspect nearly cut her arm in the process.

Meanwhile, a witness in the drive-thru lane said he heard a woman screaming.

The witness said he pulled forward to see what was happening and witnessed the man pulling the carhop by the arms into his car. He said the victim pulled away and the suspect drove off.

As the suspect fled, the witness followed him to obtain a license plate number and description of the car.

Officers were able to trace the vehicle to a home on Timms Street where a black male walked out of the front door and immediately ran back inside.

Moments later, the homeowner answered the door and stated that only she and her daughter were inside. After officers told her they saw a man run back inside, she consented to the search, saying she wasn't going to go to jail for anyone.

Upon searching the home, officers found 44-year-old Tarone Lachun James hiding in a kitchen closet. A black knife was also found on the floor where James was arrested.

According to the incident report, the victim positively identified James as the man who robbed her.

He has been charged with felony aggravated assault and felony aggravated robbery.
