Robbery suspect captured in Clay Co.

CLAY COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - -

A man wanted by police in early January was captured over the weekend in Clay County.

Lonnie Blanton, 52, of Corning was arrested by the Clay County Sheriff's Office Saturday around 5:30 p.m. in Datto. According to the sheriff's office, Blanton was spotted in the area and ran before being seized by deputies and the sheriff.

The sheriff's office was looking for the man after being identified in the robbing a local liquor store.

Around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, the sheriff's office received a call from their colleagues in Butler County, MO, regarding an armed robbery at the State Line Liquor Store on U.S. Highway 67.

Investigators say the suspect then drove into Arkansas and a description of the vehicle was provided.

A Clay County officer viewed the store's surveillance video and recognized the suspect as Blanton, according to a news release from Sheriff Terry Miller.

Blanton is expected to be charged in the robbery he was also wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service.
