WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 museum got a surprise gift over the holidays.
The Wings of Honor Museum in Walnut Ridge received a $20,000 donation. The museum's original purpose was to preserve the history of the historic Walnut Ridge Army Airfield.
Overtime, it has grown and moved to a larger building. President Harold Johnson said the funds couldn't have come at a better time.
"We about used all of our funds to build a 20 by 80 foot building on the south end," said Johnson. "We need that to finish off the inside and do some exhibits and the new building will be used entirely for World War II exhibits.
The museum opened in 1999. Johnson said some of the exhibits they're working on are about the battles in Europe and the Pacific, the American overseas cemeteries and the Holocaust.
