BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) - A three-year-old Brookland boy's Make-A-Wish came to life thanks to Brookland Schools.
Shane Williamson's older brothers, Cole and Marshall, took him on a pirate scavenger hunt at Brookland Elementary Friday. The entire school was waiting in the gym to give Shane his final clue: the word "beach." When the brothers rearranged the clues, they spelled out the big surprise: Shane and his family are going to Florida!
"He loves pirates," said Shane's mom, Rachael Williamson. "He loves the beach, sand. He was very excited about it and he wanted to go get his pirate sword. I hadn't told the kids because I wanted it to be a surprise. They're gonna love it."
Shane, his parents, three siblings and most of his extended family leave for Naples, Florida next week. The Brookland School District made their trip possible thanks to the $7,000 raised at its Have-A-Heart Wish-A-Thon last year.
Shane has been fighting Childhood Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive type of muscle cancer, on and off for most of his life. His mom said they had to stop his treatment because nothing worked.
She said the family is now just trying to make sure Shane is comfortable and happy every day.
