Police searching for suspect in officer-involved shooting

Shooting scene Shooting scene
JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police are searching for a man suspected in an officer-involved shooting.

According to a news release from the Jonesboro Police Department, Brandon Johnson walked away from a local hospital on Monday morning.

Johnson, who is a parole absconder, had not been charged in Friday's incident.

Second Judicial District Drug Task Force agents were executing a search warrant in the 400-block of East Johnson when the suspect pulled into the driveway.

When officers attempted to arrest Johnson, he reportedly “accelerated up the driveway in an apparent attempt to run over the officers, who fired upon the vehicle in defense of themselves.”

Johnson sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment, the report stated.

He was not under arrest at the time he walked away from the hospital. As of 10:30 a.m. Monday, officers were obtaining arrest warrants on charges of aggravated assault and fleeing.

Arkansas State Police are investigating Friday's shooting, at the request of Police Chief Rick Elliott and Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd.
