Newport Alderman keeps his seat

Newport's Mayor says an alderman charged in a federal drug investigation can keep his seat on the City council until the case plays out in court.

Pinkey Mcfarlin was indicted on 25 counts related to the possession and distribution of crack cocaine and the tranquilizer Xanax.

Mcfarlin has been a council member for 3 years, and is also the president of the Jackson county chapter of the NAACP.

Mcfarlin's wife also faces 2 charges in the case.

They are to be arraigned in federal court on January 18th.
