MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) - Reckless driving led to the arrest of a Region 8 man on drug charges.

After receiving a complaint of a reckless driver on State Highway 5, a Baxter County sheriff's deputy stopped a 1999 GMC pickup truck driven by John Leroy Lewis, 48, of Mountain Home around 9 p.m. Tuesday

During the traffic stop, the deputy learned Lewis had a suspended license.

Lewis then became “disorderly, hostile, and began yelling at officers,” said Sheriff John Montgomery in a news release.

Deputies took Lewis into custody. During a search of his clothing and person, Montgomery said deputies found 2 syringes including one that contained suspected methamphetamine.

Officers also reportedly found .3 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine in a small plastic bag in Lewis's pocket.

He was taken to the Baxter County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both felonies. He was also charged with 2 misdemeanors: driving while license suspended and disorderly conduct.

Lewis is currently being held in lieu of $10,000 bond awaiting a Jan. 22 court appearance.
