Room in Jonesboro restaurant dedicated to disabled veterans

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro chapter of Disabled American Veterans met Saturday to celebrate the dedication of a new room.

Ryan's in Jonesboro allowed the local DAV chapter to dedicate a room at the restaurant in honor of veterans. Some of the memorabilia was donated and many of the vets contributed pieces of their own.

The members met this morning for breakfast to celebrate the finished product.

Member Rich Carvell said this room will allow for the DAV's mission to be shared with others.

"A lot of the things we do for disabled veterans, they go unnoticed," Carvell said. "As you can see, with the various things that have been set up in this room it's going to make it a whole lot more publicly aware."

Ryan's General Manager Glin Miller said they wanted to partner with the DAV because of the great work they do.

"Seems like they contribute to the community, and especially, of course I've had a lot of former veterans work here, and I know a lot of them have gotten help from them," Miller said. "We always want to put into the community where we think it will do the most good, and I think these gentlemen are one of the places that excel at that."

The organization hopes by getting more exposure the public can learn about the programs they sponsor, including the van program that gives veterans rides to VA hospitals.

They are in great need of volunteers. If you are interested, you can contact them at 870-219-7536.
