JPD helping former officer

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Former Jonesboro police officer, Jessie Hanks, has been diagnosed with transitional cell carcinoma.

Hanks was with the Jonesboro Police Department for 24 years before transferring to the Craighead County Sheriff's Department.

Hanks is receiving treatment in Houston, Texas. Officers wanted to find a way to help with expenses and came up with a plan.

“There are expenses that insurance won't cover. His food and lodging while he's undergoing treatment,” said Paul Holmes with JPD. “The officers have gotten together and we've established a fund at Simmons Bank to help Jessie with those medical expenses.”

You can make a donation to the ''Jessie Banks Benefit Fund'' at any Simmons Bank branch.
