Meyer, Pevtsova of A-State Track Earn SBC Weekly Honors
NEW ORLEANS, LA (ASU) – For a third-straight week, the Arkansas State University track and field programs had two players earn Sun Belt Conference weekly accolades. Senior Joey Meyer is the SBC Male Track Athlete of the Week while junior pole-vaulter Alexandra Pevtsova is the Female Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
In his first race in nearly two years, Meyer sprinted to a win at the Scarlet and Black Invitational in the 400-meter dash. Meyer crossed the line first with a time of 48.33 and ranks second among SBC athletes heading into the weekend meets. Meyer was tasked with the leadoff leg in the 4x400 meter relay and he helped the team post a first place finish with a time of 3:19.28.
Pevtsova jumped personal bests on consecutive jumps in the pole vault and ended with a big clearance over 12-10.50 (3.93m). With the clearance, Pevtsova won the women's pole vault competition at the Scarlet and Black Invitational and now ranks second among league competition. Her clearance ranks No. 5 in A-State track history.
