Officers investigating copper theft at empty home

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro officers are investigating a copper theft that happened in early that happened in early January.

Police said someone cut copper off the air conditioner unit outside of an empty home on the 600-block of Washington avenue.

Inside the home, someone also removed copper from the radiator heater.

The property owner told police the rental home had been empty for about two months, but she believed a past tenant may still have a key and could possibly be involved.

A window was broken on one side of the house, but the homeowner couldn't advise if that happened before or after the theft. The broken part of the window was not big enough for a person to fit through, but according to the police report someone could have unlocked and pushed the window open from the inside.

There were no signs of forced entry to the doors.

Police did not confirm any person as a suspect.
