Is the groundhog's forecast right for Region 8?

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Punxsutawney Phil came out of his home in Pennsylvania on Monday and called for 6 more weeks of winter, but how accurate is his forecast? Many in Region 8 were not happy when they heard the outcome, but they said they are not too sure they can trust his forecast.

Larry Wilson was fishing at Craighead Forest Park on Monday and said he is hoping the groundhog's forecast is wrong. Wilson said he prefers the warm weather over the cold.

"Sometimes he's right and sometimes he'll miss it. I hope he missed it this time, but the way it's been he probably hit it," Wilson said.

Wilson isn't the only one wishing for the warmer weather, Lisa Harness at Bennett's Nursery wants the warmer weather as well, because it helps business at the nursery.

"Since it has been mild, it has not affected us as much as it did last year, but winter usually does," Harness said. "People don't get out when it's cold or if the weather is bad."

Punxsutawney Phil isn't always right, and the Region 8 Stormteam is predicting this year he may be wrong.

The Stormteam predicts warmer weather is looking good for the long-term forecast.
