JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Many children in Northeast Arkansas won't need to worry about where their next meal is coming from thanks to Kohl's in Jonesboro.
They just donated $500 to the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas. This grant is part of the "Kohl's Cares for Kids Foundation".
The money will be used to help fund the backpack program in Region 8.
Food Bank Development Director Vicki Pillow said the need to meet is bigger than people think. There are children waiting to get in the program.
"We currently have 595 children in several school districts in our backpack program," said Pillow. "We know there are more children that need it, but it's a sponsored program. We add children as we know we can sustain it. We certainly don't want put a child on it one year and then not be able to have it the next year."
The program provides a backpack filled with food a young child can prepare for all their weekend meals.
As part of the grant, Kohl's employees also volunteered at the food bank.
For $150, you can sponsor a child for an entire year.
