JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - February is National Wear Red Month in acknowledgement of heart health.
Cardiologist Dr. Dharmendra Patel with NEA Baptist said events like this are important to raise awareness to heart issues.
Dr. Patel said there are a number of lifestyle modifications you can do prevent future problems with your heart.
"Whether it be exercising 20 minutes a day for 3 days a week, that goes a long way in prevention and helping heart disease," said Dr. Patel. "Or whether it be looking at your LDL, which is your bad cholesterol and making sure it's under control."
Dr. Patel said your managing you diet and not smoking are two additional important factors. He said heart disease is the number one killer for both men and women in America.
