Jonesboro Fire Department opens new station

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro Fire Department opened its newest station.

On Wednesday, Fire Station 5 on Neely Road officially opened.

In 2007, the city of Jonesboro and JFD began a long venture to upgrade and relocate stations throughout the city.

This decision was made to better serve the community and improve the Insurance Service Office rating for the area.

"It'll be a great asset to the city," said Captain Bobby Pickle. "This part of town is steadily growing, the whole city of Jonesboro's growing and we're having to grow with it. It's been a blessing for everybody."

The original Fire Station 5 was built in 1978.
