JONESBORO, AR - Jonesboro Fire Chief Butch Herring says he has been forced to resign after being given an ultimatum earlier this week by new Mayor Doug Formon.  The resignation was formally announced in a statement from the office of Mayor Doug Formon, who is reportedly out of town at this time.

Herring was an unsuccessful candidate for Mayor of Jonesboro last year, finishing a distant third to Formon, who eventually won the race in a runoff with businessman Dan Pierce.

Herring had served as the city's fire chief since March, after serving the previous two years as assistant chief.  He had been a member of the Jonesboro Fire Department since 1981.
