CONWAY, AR (ASU) — Arkansas State suffered a 6-1 loss to Central Arkansas in a non-conference tennis match Monday afternoon at the UCA Tennis Courts.
Jess Heeps-Eriksen captured the Red Wolves (1-4) only victory of the afternoon with a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 in the No. 4 singles match. Five of the six singles matches went to a full three sets but the Red Wolves came up short in the final set despite battling close in each match.
In the No. 1 match Tamara Slijepcevic lost to Nataly Yoo 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, while Julie Gauguery lost to Kelsey Williams 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the No. 2 match. Sabina Jeresic and Sofia Krsmanovic also suffered tough losses despite going three sets. Jeresic lost to Allison Murphy 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 in the No. 5 match, while Krsmanovic lost to Bianca Strukelj 7-5, 5-7, 6-1.
In doubles competition Victoria Pisani/Julie Gauguery lost to Nataly Yoo/Cassidy Crawford 6-4 in the No. 1 match, while Tamara Slijepcevic/Sabina Jeresic lost to Kelsey Williams/Allison Murphy 6-2. In the third doubles match Sofia Krsmanovic/Jess Heeps-Eriksen lost to Brianca Strukelj/Kristina Horsikyan 6-0.
A-State returns to the road for a match against Missouri State on Friday, Feb. 13 at the RidgePointe Country Club.
