Last steel beam to be placed on the Black Rock bridge this weekend

BLACK ROCK, AR (KAIT) -

The new Black Rock Bridge is nearing completion.

Bridge Superintendent Randy Ennis said they are scheduled to put the last steel beam on the bridge this weekend.

He said they are expected to have the bridge open by the end of April or mid-May, if weather permits.

Construction engineer James Toney says the mild winter has allowed crews to continue working hard.

“The contractors have been able to make a lot of progress just simply for the fact that the weather has been so good,” Field Construction Engineer James Toney said. “Normally, we're not able to make that kind of progress in the winter months.”

“We feel like that we're real close to being on schedule,” Toney said. “Hopefully, if everything goes real good within the next couple of months we will have traffic over on the new bridge.”

The contractor has until mid-March to finish the bridge or face a $25,000 per day fine until the project is complete.
