CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The next phase in the Bono Lake project has begun.
The Craighead County Quorum Court passed a resolution on Monday night allowing County Judge Ed Hill to move forward with Bono Lake negotiations.
Once the judge has finalized an agreement with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, it will come back to the justices for final approval before the contract is signed.
"It's been a long, daunting process that is finally coming to a nice conclusion," Tony Thomas with the Craighead County Judge's office said. "We're looking forward to working out those final details."
Thomas said the contract would ultimately give control of the lake and the surrounding land to Craighead County.
The state bought the land at Bono Lake in 2001 and has been working with the county on this project since then.
