JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The American Red Cross is working to teach children in northeast Arkansas about what they do.
"Every Red Cent Counts" is a campaign Red Cross representatives would like schools to get on board with. During the week of March 16, they will collect money to help victims of disaster.
One bucket will be placed in each participating classroom and the class who raises the most money by the end of the week will win a prize.
Executive Director for the American Red Cross Pam Knapp-Carver said this project is also to educate children about what the Red Cross really does.
"We want them to know how we do what we do, why we do what we do," Knapp-Carver said. "We want them to understand when someone loses their home to a fire that the American Red Cross is there within two hours of notification to make sure that that family has their basic needs met."
