A-State Track Readies For Final Pre-Championship Meet
JONESBORO, AR (ASU) - The Arkansas State University track and field program will have athletes competing at three different events this weekend in final preparations for the Sun Belt Conference Championships that begin Feb. 23.
Roelf Pienaar, Erin Farmer and Richard Chavez will compete at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Distance runners Abbey Dixon and Rexi Parcells compete in the Husky Classic at the University of Washington and 20 A-State athletes will see compeititon at the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Entering the weekend of competition, A-State features eight athletes leading the Sun Belt Conference in their respective event. Pienaar, owning a Sun Belt Conference indoor record long jump of 7.97m (26-1.75), leads the long jump and is ranked 10th in the current world rankings.
A-State athletes leading their event include: Jaylen Bacon (men's 200 meter dash), Richard Chavez (men's shot put), Kristina Knott (women's 60 meter dash), Emenderlyn Iwuji (women's 60 meter hurdles) Rexi Parcells (women's mile), Darragh May (women's high jump) and Savannah Hutchinson (women's heptathlon).
