Video captures moment high-speed pursuit goes airborne

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Lake City man who sped away from officers before he crashed into a Jonesboro car lot appeared in court this week and was released on his own recognizance. Thursday, the Craighead County Sheriff's Office released dash cam video of the pursuit.

Antoine Smith, 19, of Lake City lead police on a pursuit on Highway 18 at speeds of more than 100 miles an hour, according to a Jonesboro police report. The chase, which happened early Sunday morning, ended when Smith approached the intersection of Nettleton Avenue and Highland Drive.

According to the report, the vehicle “ramped” the intersection and crashed into several cars at a car lot.

Smith, who was injured in the crash, was released from a hospital Wednesday.

Dash cam video from a Craighead County sheriff's deputy captured the moment Smith's vehicle went through the intersection. The video then captured the smoke and dust from the collision between Smith's vehicle and the vehicles on the lot.

Smith is set to appear in Craighead County Circuit Court May 23 in Lake City.
