JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A man being booked into jail had his charges upgraded after officers said he punched a detention officer in the face.

Seth Monroe, 28, was being booked into the Craighead County Detention Center Tuesday morning on a charge of criminal trespass through the Jonesboro Police Department when the incident happened.

According to the Craighead County Sheriff's Department report, Monroe became unruly and attempted to walk away from Casey Foster, a detention officer.

The report states when Foster told Monroe to stop and sit down he said "he wasn't going anywhere" and then punched Foster in the face.

Monroe was taken to a holding cell by Foster and another officer. Officers with the sheriff's department said Monroe "refused commands and a Taser was used to gain compliance." He was then placed in a restraint chair.

One officer read Monroe his Miranda rights and tried to interview him, but he would not speak or acknowledge the officer.

Monroe was charged with 2nd degree felony battery, according to the incident report.
