Icy roads cause issues for Jonesboro drivers

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Arkansas Highway Department was busy clearing streets for Jonesboro drivers Monday morning.

Heavy sleet quickly piled up on Jonesboro roads causing some travel issues.

Jonesboro E 911 Director Jeff Presley reports Jonesboro police worked six accidents early Monday morning.

Injuries were reported in one of those accidents.

As the sleet fell, some drivers experienced issues with slippery roads and broken windshield wipers.

“They've been sliding all over the place,” said Shannon Weston, an employee of O'Reilly Auto Parts. “We had one that came into the parking lot and tried to stop as they normally would then just slid.”

While some experienced difficulty, others say their icy commute wasn't bad.

“There were a couple hills I slid around a little but it wasn't anything that wasn't manageable,” Adrian Everett said.

“It was pretty icy but if you can learn how to control that wheel, it's not too bad,” said Jerry Thomas.
