Jonesboro police arrest 13-year-old suspect in Miracle League Park vandalism case

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

On Monday, Feb. 16, Jonesboro police arrested a 13-year-old boy suspected of vandalizing the Miracle League Park, 5000 S. Caraway Rd.

The women's restroom was flooded and several fixtures, including a toilet and other furnishings, were destroyed late Tuesday, Feb. 10. Wixson Huffstetler, director of Jonesboro Parks and Recreation, estimated the damage could cost several thousand dollars.

Patrolman First Class Caleb Landreth, a school resource officer at the SUCCESS school received information from a teacher regarding the incident, according to a news release from the Jonesboro Police Department.

Detective Sgt. R.J. Smith and Detective Mike McCanless, acting on that information, arrested the 13-year-old suspect on Monday.

Smith said officers believe the teen was alone and "acted out of anger."

The boy is being held in the Craighead County Juvenile Detention Facility pending action by the juvenile court.
