Napier Leading Second-Place A-State Men’s Golf at Bronc Intercollegiate
EDINBURG, TX (ASU) – The Arkansas State men's golf team opened its 2015 spring schedule Monday at the Bronc Intercollegiate, shooting a combined 616 at the Los Lagos Golf Club to complete the tournament's first two rounds in second place.
While the Red Wolves posted a second-round 315, which was 14 strokes over their total for the first 18 holes, they will enter Tuesday's third and final round only one stroke behind first-place Abilene Christian. A-State currently holds a 12-stroke lead over third-place Texas-Pan American, the host school.
A-State was led by freshman Tanner Napier, who is in third place after recording a combined 151 that included a first-round 74. Napier is two strokes behind Abilene Christian's Corbin Renner, the No. 135-ranked player in the nation by golfstat.com, and trails leader Nicolas Platret of UTPA by three.
Joining Napier among the top-10 leaders for the Red Wolves was junior Seth Garner, who posted a 153 to end the day in fifth place. Garner carded a 76 and 77 for the first and second rounds, respectively.
Also competing for the Red Wolves, Alex Hewitt is tied for 12th place with a 159 (75-84), Oswin Schlenkrich tied for 14th with a 160 (76-84), Petter Salqvist tied for 20th with a 164 (82-84) and Matthew Loiacano is in 25th place with a 169 (92-77).
