JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - When driving on icy roads, your car needs to be prepared on the outside and the inside.
Representatives with the American Red Cross want Region 8 residents to think ahead. Be sure to prepare an emergency kit for your vehicle.
Jody Carter with the Red Cross said don't let the clear skies fool you, there's still ice on the roads.
"If you've got kids, think about some toys that you might want to have that they can entertain themselves with in the backseat. Snacks and water, medications if you're going to be out for a while," said Carter. "Grab the medications that you need to take this afternoon and this evening just in case you're out and about and get stuck."
Carter said not to forget about bottles of water and something to keep you warm, like extra jackets or blankets.
Also, make sure your car has a full tank of gas. If the exhaust isn't blocked, you can run your car's heater until help arrives.
