Police: Fake cop calling, threatening to arrest citizens for missing jury duty

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

An old scam is finding new life in Craighead County.

In recent days the Jonesboro Police Department and the Craighead County Sheriff's Office have received complaints from citizens about a jury duty scam.

According to the incident reports, the caller claims an arrest warrant has been issued for the victim for not appearing for jury duty.

In one of the calls, the victim said the man told her to go to a local convenience store and purchase 2 Green Dot cards for $500 each.

The man reportedly told the woman he knew where she lived and would arrest her if she did not comply.

The suspect's phone number appeared as 870-202-8716 in each of the 4 cases reported, according to the incident reports.

This is not the first time this particular scam has been reported in Craighead County.

As in previous cases, law enforcement officials urge citizens to not provide any personal information, including Social Security and banking account numbers, over the phone.
