JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – The Arkansas State baseball team will travel to Emerson, Ga., to face seventh-ranked Louisville in a three-game series at the Perfect Game Park South Complex Feb. 20-21 instead of its originally scheduled trip to Natchitoches, La., to play Creighton and Northwestern State Feb. 21.
The Red Wolves and Cardinals will play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 11 a.m. (CT) with the second game set to follow at approximately 2 p.m. (CT). The series will conclude Saturday with a single game at 11 a.m. (CT).
Louisville, who has advanced to the College World Series each of the past two seasons, is currently 2-1 after defeating Alabama State (5-1) and South Florida (7-3) and losing to No. 17 Cal State Fullerton (8-6) on the opening weekend of the 2015 season.
Arkansas State is 2-1 after taking two of three games from Illinois State last weekend. The Red Wolves dropped game one 3-0 on Friday night before sweeping a Saturday doubleheader by scores of 13-4 and 11-5 to earn the series victory.
This weekend's meetings against Louisville will mark the fourth, fifth, and sixth time the two schools have played each other in history with the Cardinals holding a 2-1 advantage. The two teams played a three-game series in Jonesboro during the 1992 season. Louisville won the first game 12-7 before A-State evened the series with an 11-7 win. The Cardinals earned the series win by taking the rubber match 5-3.
The Perfect Game Park South Complex is located in Emerson, Ga., which is located about 40 miles northwest of Atlanta. It features eight major league size fields with plans to expand to 16 in the near future and has a “Truhop” turf playing surface.
