A-State Baseball adds home game versus Tennessee

JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – The Arkansas State baseball squad has added Tennessee to its schedule as the Volunteers will travel to Jonesboro for a nonconference tilt with the Red Wolves on April 1 with first pitch set for 5 p.m.

The meeting against Tennessee on April 1 will mark the first of two matchups where Arkansas State hosts an SEC opponent with Ole Miss set to come to Tomlinson Stadium later in the year on May 12.

A-State's contest with Tennessee will represent the first time the two schools have faced off on the diamond since the 2013 season when the Volunteers won a 12-3 decision over the Red Wolves in Knoxville.  The other three meetings in the series came during the 1969 season when A-State took two of three from the Volunteers.  A-State won the first and third games by scores of 4-0 and 7-5, while Tennessee earned a 3-1 victory in the second contest.

The Red Wolves are currently 2-1 on the season after taking two of three games versus Illinois State on opening weekend.  The winter weather that has moved through the region has caused numerous schedule changes for many schools as A-State was forced to postpone a midweek contest at Ole Miss and is now playing Louisville in a three-game series Feb. 20-21 in Emerson, Ga.
