WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The Walnut Ridge Mayor appointed a new police chief after the former chief resigned last month.
Mayor Charles Snapp said Chris Kirksey will fill the full-time position.
Richey Thatcher resigned last month and an interim chief was in that position since then.
The application process for the position began shortly after Thatcher's resignation.
Mayor Snapp said once the applicants were narrowed down, he interviewed three candidates before selecting Kirksey.
"I appreciate Mayor Snapp for giving me the opportunity to lead this city as the chief," Kirksey said. "I'm looking forward to serving the citizens of Walnut Ridge and I'm ready to get going right away."
Mayor Snapp also created a new department that will focus on tackling drugs around Lawrence County.
He said he also plans to ask the police committee to upgrade some of the equipment officers use.
