Accident involving a train and a truck backs up traffic

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Part of Dan Avenue was backed up on Friday night after a train hit a truck.

According to Jonesboro Police, the crash happened just before 7 p.m. on Willett Road, near Dan Avenue in Jonesboro.

JPD officers said the crash involved a white GMC truck. 

According to a news release from the Jonesboro Police Department, the truck was driving West on Hanley Road when the driver tried to turn left onto Willet Road. The truck slid on the icy road and got struck on the railroad tracks. 

A BNSF train was going west on the tracks. The train engineer said he saw the truck and put the train into emergency braking. 

The train hit the left side of the truck. 

The driver and a passenger in the truck were both taken to the St. Bernards Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.
