Batesville, AR --The third Region 8 soldier killed in a recent roadside bomb attack Iraq was laid to rest Friday afternoon. About four hundred people attended funeral services for Corporal Jimmy Buie in his hometown of Batesville.

A cadence of rifle fire was followed by the bittersweet embrace of taps, as Cpl. Buie received his final salute.

Cpl. Buie served our country for 7 years before he decided to leave the military. The events of 9/11 rekindled his spirit to serve.

" If it wasn't for people like Jimmy, we wouldn't have what we have today," said Cpl. Buie's cousin, Rick Buie.

Cpl. Buie just re-enlisted 5 months ago. He was at a fair in Batesville when he spotted an Army National Guard booth and decided to go for it. At the time,  he didn't think that he'd be accepted. But he got in and was soon on a plane to Iraq; just where he wanted to be.

"He knew he was going to be front line combat. He wasn't worried, he didn't have a worry in the world. He didn't care, he knew that the Lord was going to take care of him one way or the other."

Corporal Buie leaves behind a wife and two sons.
