BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

A Level 3 sex offender was arrested Monday morning after deputies say he pulled a knife and threatened to hurt 3 people.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Baxter County sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic dispute at a home on County Road 900 in Midway.

When officers arrived they found 27-year-old Darrell Shane Smith walking out of the home, carrying 2 knives, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Smith reportedly began walking toward a deputy who told him to drop the knives.

Smith shouted at the deputy to “shoot him,” then turned to walk back into the house.

At that time the deputy fired his Taser at Smith and took him into custody.

Three other people at the home at the time of the incident told investigators Smith had chased and threatened them with the knives throughout the morning.

Smith was taken to the Baxter County Detention Center where he is being held on 3 counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member and one count of aggravated assault. All are felonies.

He is also charged with a misdemeanor, criminal mischief.

Smith is being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond awaiting an appearance in circuit court.

According to the sheriff's office, Smith is a registered Level 3 sex offender. In 2002 he was adjudicated delinquent in the rapes of a 9-year-old girl and an 8- or 9-year-old boy.
