Winter weather pushes back food distribution event

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Region 8 schools weren't the only organizations affected by last week's winter storm. The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas was also "snowed in".

The food bank had to reschedule their commodity distribution for Lawrence County to this week.

"We do a mobile food pantry where we go into a community and we distribute food to families in need at a designated location," said Christie Jordan, Executive Director of the Food Bank of NEA. "And because of the weather last week, because of the ice and snow, we didn't want anyone risking being out on the roads."

Jordan said they feed around 5,000 people a week.

The food distribution for Lawrence County will be Thursday, Feb.26 beginning at 9 a.m. at the National Guard Armory in Walnut Ridge.
