Paragould Police investing in new and advanced equipment

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

The Paragould Police Department is looking forward to getting a lot of new equipment for its tactical team.

The department received a $125,590 grant from Homeland Security. The grant is designated to assist specifically with SWAT response teams against terrorism.

Two of the big purchases are a new Ford van and new Chevy Tahoe. The vehicles will be used to carry equipment and travel to training seminars.

Captain Brendan Baldridge said this sector in the department needed new equipment.

“This lets us take a giant leap forward on getting equipment,” Baldridge said. “Like I said, we've always had good personnel. This is just kind of bringing the equipment to use up to the level of the people we've got.”

Baldridge said with the rest of the grant they are purchasing new hard body armor such as rifle plates. Night vision and thermal imaging equipment is also on the way, along with new ladders and extension cameras.
