INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The city of Batesville has dropped a lawsuit against Southside.
During a special city council meeting, council members voted 6 to 2 to dismiss the lawsuit over the Batesville Regional Airport.
Last year, a judge approved the incorporation of Southside. That's when the fight began.
The airport fell in Southside city limits, but Batesville leaders wanted it annexed into Batesville city limits.
The two towns began negotiations over the airport in November and a lawsuit was filed. The case was set to appear in court on Monday, but it won't proceed.
Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh said Batesville owns the airport and will continue to operate it.
Elumbaugh said Batesville city leaders look forward to working with the city of Southside so both communities see the benefits.
