Jonesboro DARE program teaches life lessons

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Jonesboro DARE officers are working hard teaching students how to stay drug-free among other life lessons.

Corporal Kevin Foust said they had to cancel the DARE Biker Classic event, but the program is staying strong.

“We teach currently in five school districts here in Jonesboro in the city limits,” Cpl. Foust said. “It's Jonesboro, Nettleton, Valley View and then we teach Ridgefield and Blessed Sacrament. So, we're looking at about 1100 fifth grade kids that we're teaching just this school year.”

Cpl. Foust said the DARE cycling events are still on.

A four day bicycle ride across the state of Arkansas will take place Memorial Day weekend.

The same distance will be cycled in a separate 24-hour event in September.

Foust said they hope to bring the DARE Biker Classic back next year.
