Students create program to help with medical needs

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Students at MacArthur Junior High in Jonesboro are using technology to help people with medical needs, in case the power goes out.

Three EAST students created the Patient Urgency System.

It's a map of Craighead County that plots addresses where home medical equipment is used. The map also outlines electric service providers.

“We want them to be able to use this map in the event of a power outage so they can locate the patients and have a plan, a strategic plant to retrieve those patients and help them when they need it,” student Holden Welch said.

They've met with St. Bernards to show them how to plot patients' information.

The project is one of eight National Service Project Finalists for the EAST program.
