JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - About 400 students gave Valley View's archery tournament their best shot Saturday.
Ten Arkansas counties competed to qualify for state in the elementary, middle school and high school divisions.
Nearly 100 students represented Valley View. The head coach said archery is a great alternative to contact sports, like football and basketball.
"This involves a lot of kids that otherwise wouldn't get to participate in a team activity," said Nancy Best. "There's up to 24 on a team so that gives a lot of kids an opportunity to compete."
Best said it's an honor to host the regional tournament. Valley View got the bid for the second consecutive year and all of the funds from the tournament will fund the school's archery equipment and travel.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission sponsored the tournament.
