PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - It seems like a business boom is happening in Paragould, where several new businesses plan to open in the city and a retail giant is interested in another property.
Construction on an Aldi's grocery store will begin soon, according to Mayor Mike Gaskill.
Demolition on a house in front of the Walmart on W. Kingshighway began Monday. The Aldi's will be built there.
No timetable has been announced on when that store could open.
Casey's General Store is also expanding into Paragould.
It's located near the Paragould High School, on the corner of W. Kingshighway and West Court Street.
The construction on that store is nearly complete, but we also don't know when it will open.
A new Walmart Neighborhood Market will be built in the south end of town, on the corner of Highway 358 and Highway 49.
The property was rezoned last week, according to Gaskill.
The sale of the property hasn't closed yet, but the mayor said people seem excited about the growth.
"I think citizens of communities like to see growth and commercial businesses so that they can have more options and I think that's a positive thing that happens," Gaskill said.
Mayor Gaskill said if things go well, the Walmart Neighborhood Market and Aldi's grocery store could be complete sometime this year.
It was also confirmed last week that a Waffle House will be built in Paragould. It is set to be open by the first of June.
