KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - A southeast Missouri inmate died at a local hospital after he became ill during a stay at the Dunklin County Justice Center due to a medical condition, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, the inmate was serving a sentence on a failure to appear conviction. The inmate died due to a pre-existing medical condition.
The inmate was taken to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center, where the inmate died.
Holder has requested an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The inmate, whose name has not been released, will be taken to Mineral Area Hospital in Farmington for autopsy.
