LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Lawrence County Jail Committee hosted a meeting on Monday afternoon to select an architect to recommend for building a new jail.
Last year, the Arkansas Jail Standards Committee said the Lawrence County Jail should be closed due to its small size.
The county was given six months to come up with a permanent solution to house the inmates.
The committee narrowed down their choices to two companies, one out of West Memphis and another out of Tennessee.
A council member told Region 8 News the jail committee selected ETFC Garey Architects out of West Memphis.
That selection is now recommended to the full quorum court, who will decide on it next Monday at their meeting.
The committee must still select where the new jail will be located.
