PORTIA, AR (KAIT) -

A Portia man on probation is now in jail after authorities found guns in his home during a search.

Shannon Workman, 39, was arrested on Feb. 25 and charged with possession of firearms by certain persons, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office.

On that day, Sheriff Jeff Yates and other investigators visited Workman's residence on Crossroads in Portia after the Third Judicial Drug Task Force received a tip about illegal activity there.

The sheriff's office states Workman was notified by his probation officer that a search would be done at the home.

As officers arrived, Workman told them he had "several firearms." Police said this violates his probation.

While searching the home officers reportedly found guns in seven different locations which included closets and underneath pillows.

Workman told officers the guns "were for his own protection."

He is currently in the Lawrence County Jail.
