Game plan for state tournaments with pending winter storm

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Greene County Tech High School is one of the locations for the 5A State Basketball Tournament that started on Tuesday.

Some of the best teams in the state will make their way to Greene County to play, but the tournament could be overshadowed by a round of winter weather.

Greene County Tech Assistant Superintendent Gene Weeks said postponing the event wouldn't be easy, but the school is prepared to do it.

"Thirty-two teams from across the state in 5-A will be coming in here, 16 girls teams and 16 boys teams," Weeks said.

While some of the teams have arrived, others won't arrive until Wednesday, and they could have an icy trip up ahead of them.

Weeks said if the tournament does get postponed, they will hold off until all of the teams are able to make it to Paragould.

"When we get our roads clear and we can get our teams in from across the state, then we'll pick the tournament back up," Weeks said.

Weeks also promises that a cancellation isn't an option.

"We will play, we will get a state tournament in, whether it's this week, or this weekend, or early next week," Weeks said.

Games are currently set to be played over the next 5 days, but Weeks said that if a  game was postponed, they are prepared to play well into next week.
