Sleet and snow slowly making its way into Region 8

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Wintry precipitation is once again making its way into Region 8.

Most experienced rain Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, but sleet and snow are expected by Wednesday afternoon.

Forecasters say the change over could happen between noon and 3 p.m. in Jonesboro. There is a chance of 5 to 8 inches of sleet and snow combined as the storm moves through.

Meteorologist Justin Logan states, "The closer you get to I-40, the totals get a bit lower. Sunshine returns Thursday afternoon, but temperatures remain below freezing. It does look like we get near freezing on Friday and above freezing into the weekend. Dry into the first part of next week."

Check roads in northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri before traveling as conditions get worse.

Power outages may not be widespread, but could happen with periods of freezing rain in the forecast.

According to the Arkansas Activities Association 7A, 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A state basketball tournaments have been postponed for Wednesday.

Most of the area is under a Winter Storm Warning until noon Thursday.
