LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - Arkansas House members have approved a resolution requesting a federal constitutional convention to take up federal balanced budget and term limits amendments.
The resolution approved by the House on a 52-33 vote Friday calls for a convention to consider amendments to "impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress."
The resolution now heads to the state Senate.
It takes a request from 34 states to trigger a constitutional convention.
It's the second request by the state House for a constitutional convention. A separate measure approved by the chamber earlier this week calls for Arkansas to join a compact of states seeking a convention for a balanced budget amendment.
