Greene County Authorities Make Grim Discovery near Walcott

JANUARY 20, 2005 - Posted at 7:59 a.m. CST

PARAGOULD, AR - Greene County authorities are attempting to determine the identity of a badly burned body discovered Wednesday afternoon on Sand Creek, near Walcott.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a vehicle fire at Sand Creek, in western Greene County.  Upon arrival, officers discovered a burned Isuzu Trooper SUV.  Authorities say the body of the vehicle's driver was burned beyond recognition.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Dick Pace.

Sheriff Dan Langston said it appeared the vehicle may have become stuck in a quicksand bed and apparently overheated in the driver's attempts to free the vehicle, thus causing the truck to catch fire.

The driver is described as a white male with a medium framed body, approximately six feet tall.  The man was also wearing wire-rimmed glasses.  The SUV was described as being blue, with four doors.

Anyone with information as to the driver's identity is encouraged to contact the Greene County Sheriff's Department at 870-236-7612.
